Anthony, love your insights. Love this quote,
“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” — Marcus Aurelius
Your article fascinates me. Maybe the cave is a metaphor of our own heart.
The human heart is the most difficult thing to rescue. Most of us live barricaded in our own hearts because the world lacks love. We don’t lead with love in our relationships. We live protecting our hearts first.
In answering your question, “If happiness has no basis in the external world then why give a darn about improving the external world”?
Maybe there is no difference between the internal world and the external.
Maybe human consciousness is grounded in love, creativity and freedom no matter if it is looking on the inside or outside. It’s all the same.
This would be an incredible way to live. As you shared from Marcus Aurelius
…….It is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
